Frequently Asked Questions / Troubleshooting (english only)

Q: I can't find other users/computers on the LAN. What's wrong?
A: On both computers the receive32 task must be running. Check this. If it is not running on your machine you will not even find
     your own machine/useraccount.

Q: I have difficulties using Sendrec in a network with mixed OS'. Sendrec on a NT4/Win2000/XP machine can not find a
certain Win9x machine. What am I doing wrong?

A: Be sure that the computers can 'see' themselves in the network. When using TCP/IP be sure to have the same subnet mask
configured on your machines TCP/IP settings.
If the problem persists it might be due to a change that Microsoft(TM) made in the
mailslot implementation. (it's the underlying mechanism in the OS). There is a BUG in  the Win95/98 Mailslot implementation
which causes mailslot names to be truncated. In SendRec mailslot names are built from usernames and computernames.
If the name is truncated on machine A (running Win95/98) and is not truncated on machine B (running NT/2000/XP)
communication will not work via SendRec. See the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article (139716) for details.

Q: I don't want to have receive32 running permanently, what can I do?
A: Remove it from your Startup folder manually. You must start receive32.exe when you want to use Send/Receive again.

Q: Is there another way to start receive32.exe than having it in the Startup folder?
A: Yes, ADVANCED USERS (!) might want to set this registry key. (any registry changes at your own risk)
     [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]   "SendRec"="receive32.exe"
Note: Windows must be able to find the receive32.exe program. You can can update your PATH variable, or copy
"receive32.exe"  into your Windows directory (recommended)
You will have to delete this registry entry manually when you uninstall SendRec!

Q: I want to have a localized version in my language, what can I do ?
A: If SendRec is not yet available in your language, please contact me I will send you a file containing the program text
strings. You can contribute your translation. I will compile a localized version when I find the time.
